Autumn Winter bag edit

With the evenings getting darker and the leaves changing into a stunning palette of orange and red, it’s safe to say that Autumn has well and truly arrived. Gone are the long summer evenings and it’s hello to cosy and a welcome return to our favourite boots, coats and scarves.

There is something magical about Autumn- not least in terms of fashion- and weddings are no exception. Autumn weddings lend themselves to a rich, sumptuous colour palette and where better to introduce these than your accessories. We’ve long been fans of the coloured wedding shoe, and where pastel shades work perfectly for the Spring and Summer months, deep, rich tones were quite simply made for Autumn.

This is also the season for the matching bag, which is the perfect way to really emphasise your accent colour. Go for forest greens, berries and navy blue for colour, or a gold metallic or even glitter to compliment the stunning Autumn light. Here’s some of our favourite Autumn shoe and bag combos, whether you’re the bride, bridesmaid or simply want to raise your wedding guest game.

Opal Forest Green

Wear with Mimosa, Paloma or Cecelia forest green.

One of the first rich, dark colours to join the Rachel Simpson family, forest green is here to stay. It works beautifully with wedding dresses, the lush green creating a striking but soft contrast against the ivory. Forest green lends itself to a boho or botanical theme, think plenty of natural foliage, white and ivory roses and nature elements like wood or raffia.

Our Opal bag is a medium sized clutch with a soft yet defined structure. The triple teardrop motif on the front gives it a subtle art deco feel, synonymous with the Rachel Simpson style. We tend to design all of our handbags to match at least two or three shoes in the collection and Opal is no exception as it can be worn with any of our beautiful forest green shoes- Mimosa, Paloma or Cecelia. The only problem will be deciding which to choose!

Skye

Wear with Kitty and Willow platinum as well as Erin ivory

As we move into the darker Autumn Winter months it's a great time to start introducing a bit of sparkle to reflect the evening lights (think inviting festoon lights outside your favourite restaurant or bar and you get the picture!). Choosing a glitter shoe or bag is the perfect way to hint at the upcoming party season, without it being in your face.

Our platinum glitter sits perfectly in-between gold and silver, as it's made up of particles of both. This compliments our champagne good leather beautifully as that too can be worn with either gold or silver accessories. Relatively new to the collection, our Skye glitter clutch is the perfect accessory and creates a statement whilst being uber versatile to wear with pretty much any bridal gown. Wear with our Kitty block heel or Willow flat in platinum glitter, or match with our Erin block heel in ivory and platinum.

Iona Berry

Wear with Mimosa or Isadora berry

Another perfect colour for the Autumn Winter season is rich berry red. Sitting somewhere between purple and red, this gorgeous jewel tone is one of our favourite seasonal colours and whilst a bold shade, berry is surprisingly versatile. We love it with a vintage dress or a gold hued ivory, with rich creamy lace or heavy beading. It brings elegance and sophistication, with oodles of unique style.

We created our Iona bag a few years ago and have launched it in a variety of colours. Berry is the first dark tone and we love the contrast between the rich berry suede and the metallic gold appliqué on the front. Iona is a classic envelope clutch, with a secure magnetic fastening and plenty of space inside. As with most Rachel Simpson bags there is a detachable chain so you can wear it two ways- as a clutch or over the shoulder. Wear with either Mimosa or Isadora berry.

Coco Gold

Wear with Candyfloss, Ginger (or any number of RS shoes with gold detail!)

Gold work particularly well for an Autumn or Winter wedding, with just enough of a nod to the party season to give your look a subtle glam vibe. It’s versatile to match pretty much any wedding dress and of course is the perfect choice for the evening too, transitioning effortlessly from day to dancefloor.

The Coco box clutch is a classic handbag which will become a wardrobe staple for years to come. It’s petite and compact but with plenty of room for all the essentials you’ll need for the big day (we know, we’ve tested it). The hard shell structure reminds us of a true twenties shape, but the sleek gold leather gives the bag a definite modern vibe.

Another great thing about our Coco clutch is that you can wear it with pretty much any shoe in the collection. Most obviously gold styles such as Candyfloss and Ginger, but the champagne gold leather is also used throughout the Rachel Simpson collection as a detail which means Coco will go with any shoes, without being too ‘matchy matchy’.

Mia Rose Gold

Wear with Mimosa rose gold

Perhaps a less obvious choice for Autumn but just as fitting is our elegant Mia rose gold clutch. Vintage inspired and timeless in design, the warm blush tone of this beautiful clutch works really well as a neutral alternative to classic ivory. The metallic leather is rose gold which gives the bag a modern twist, and perfectly emphasises the elegant Art Deco or shell shaped motif. Wear with our Mimosa t-bars in rose gold for the perfect pairing.
