Green wedding shoes- your new something blue?

Rachel Simpson shoes are more known for being in a colour rather than traditional ivory, although we obviously have those too. Ever since our very first collection we've had more coloured wedding shoes than ivory in the range and it's something which has stuck with us ever since.

Mint green was in the very first collection in the form of Mimi in elegant mint green satin, and then later as we introduced the now infamous Mimosa in mint green leather. Over the years we've brought in various different green shades but it's only been in the last couple of years that we've seen the popularity of green wedding shoes absolute rocket! Green wedding shoes are no longer purely for alternative or quirky weddings, they're coming into the mainstream...and we couldn't be happier!

Green quote Pedro Calderon de la Barca

So why do people love green so much? A sentiment I rather like is that, "green is the prime colour of the world, and that from which its loveliness arises", as quoted from Pedro Calderon de la Barca. There is something natural about green, you only have to look at the shades and they all come from the natural world- forest, sage, olive, apple, mint, grass... the list goes on. And with that comes something calming, like the blue of the sea or sky- another popular wedding shoe colour.

But aside from all the emotional stuff, there's no ignoring the fact that green shoes are just blooming beautiful! Most recently forest green has exploded onto the scene and shows no sign of slowing. When we originally launched the gorgeous Mimosa forest green it was as a direct result of showing it to you guys on Instagram! We'd planned it for the Autumn Winter collection that year, but after it nearly broke the internet (okay, I'm exaggerating but it was popular!), we brought the launch forward due to popular demand.

Forest green wedding shoes work at any time of year, but perhaps particularly well for an Autumnal or Winter wedding. They're the perfect compliment to foliage like eucalyptus, myrtle, ferns and even succulents if you're incorporating those into your wedding theme. But because forest green is such a natural shade it actually provides the perfect backdrop to pretty much any colour- for example with a contrasting berry or red, or classic ivory. Perhaps one of my favourite complimentary colours to go with forest green though is gold- it's a classic, unbeatable combination I don't think I will ever tire of!

I love the photos (cover photo and below) from a collaboration we did with Corsetry & Romance wearing our Paloma forest green- they perfectly demonstrate how forest green shoes can be worn with classic whites and ivories, as well as with a pop of a richer colour...

Our other infamous green wedding shoe is Mimosa in mint green- genuinely one of the most pinned shoes on Pinterest, and arguably the one shoe for which we are most well known! Still classic and calming, mint green is the perfect colour for any time of year but especially for a Spring or Summer wedding. Mint green is the perfect colour to compliment a vintage themed wedding, or the wonderfully classic elegance of a white & green theme. It's no secret I have a slight obsession with mint green, and at the current count we have no less than three shoes in this incredible colour- Mimosa, Isabelle, Isla..and most recently our brand new flat, Willow.

So what do you think? Will you be seen in green, or stay true to blue? Both are regularly in our bestsellers list and we'd struggle to choose, but is green becoming the new must have colour for wedding shoes?

ps- as I was writing this blog a new order for Mimosa forest green came in via the website, and it still gives me a kick every time someone finds their wedding shoes with us! :)
