Mother of the Bride Outfit Inspiration
Posted on June 12 2020
How do you choose an outfit when you're the mother of the bride (or groom)? Google this question and millions of suggestions come up from the truly traditional to the more modern, chic look with pretty much everything in between. Which could be your answer- nowadays you really can wear what you like.
That said there is a certain amount of pressure on the mother of the bride- after all it's a huge event when your daughter is getting married and you want to feel confident and comfortable above all else. You want to feel 'you' so when shopping make sure you're sticking with styles you're comfortable with, and beware trying to wear what you think you should as Mother of the Bride.
As a rule of thumb it helps to wait until your daughter has chosen the bridesmaid dresses- or at least the colour- as this will help you go for a colour which will compliment the theme of the wedding. Discuss the feel of the wedding too- if it's a formal affair you might want to go for something more traditional, but if it's going to be super laid back you might prefer something a little more relaxed.
Shoewise we're going to give you exactly the same advice we give to all our brides- comfort, comfort, comfort! Being comfortable in your shoes is the most important factor when choosing your mother of the bride shoes. We don't care how much you love that pair of four inch heels if you usually wear flats- it is not a good look when you either can't walk in them, or you end up barefoot on the dancefloor- never good! And as we know by now shoes don't have to be high to be super stylish, elegant and gorgeous. It's all about choosing shoes which compliment your outfit, both in colour as well as style.
We've put together four very different mother of the bride looks to give you a bit of inspiration. We've paired them with a cross section of shoes from flats to mid and high heels, modern to vintage. Hopefully this will give you a great starting point to choose your own outfit and show you that you really can style your mother of the bride outfit however you like...and the main thing is to really enjoy the process, I mean surely shopping is just an excuse to stop for lunch and prosecco right?
