Real Bride- Laura and Matt's Classic Botanical Wedding

Today we're looking at Laura and Matt's stunning wedding set in beautiful Nonsuch park with amazing blooms and floral arrangements- a beautiful modern take on the classic wedding look.

Tell us a little bit about you as a couple- how you met, how long you’ve been together, where you live etc.

We met in December 2009 when I was 18 and Matt was 21 – I was working in Topshop and he worked in Topman! Matt had already booked a trip to go away with his friend indefinitely to travel Asia & Australia the following summer, so we didn’t think it would be anything serious. However, by the time he was due to go we knew that we had found our best friend in each other, and that we were going to be together forever. I didn’t want to stop him going as it was all booked, and he didn’t want to let his friend down so he went and we promised to stay in touch and that I would go out and visit him as soon as I could. We kept our word and spoke as often as we could, although this was before we had smart phones so co-ordinating Skype chats was a bit of a struggle and relied on him being able to find internet cafes! What was meant to be an indefinite trip turned out to only be 3 months, and he came back to be with me. Fast forward 11 years and we had finally bought our own house in South East London, and Matt had proposed! Matt proposed on my birthday during the first lockdown in April 2020 in our kitchen, after we got off of a birthday Zoom call with all my family and friends (which he had organised)! He had planned to propose in NYC, but Covid had other plans – to be honest I wouldn’t have it any other way as now every time I walk in to the kitchen I smile at the memories of the day we got engaged!

Tell us about the wedding- theme, location, colours etc.

We got engaged in the middle of the pandemic, so I guess it’s only right that we also got married in the middle of the pandemic too!

Our original wedding date was 23rd April 2021, but we postponed to 25th June 2021 when Boris announced his plans for ‘freedom day’. We also chose 25th June as it was the weekend we should have been at Glastonbury Festival – our table names were a little nod to how much we miss Glastonbury Festival as each one was a stage name!

Sadly Boris then announced that some restrictions would still be in place on our wedding day, but we still had the most magical wedding day at Nonsuch Mansion, surrounded by our incredible family and friends. Nonsuch Mansion did everything they could to make it feel like a normal wedding day, and because of this I barely even noticed the restrictions – they really were an incredible venue throughout the whole process, from start to finish.

We chose Nonsuch because it’s an absolutely beautiful historic building with a lot of character. Also, it’s not too far from where we live and we loved the idea of being able to go for a walk in Nonsuch Park on our anniversaries, or whenever we want to reminisce!

We had a simple, classic botanical/white theme for our wedding day, with lots of beautiful florals from Bloomologie - my favourite floral feature was the garland over the fireplace.

My Dad made us a beautiful homemade postbox from scratch, and he hand painted it to fit our theme. We chose not to have bridesmaids dresses as I wanted all of my best friends to feel as comfortable as possible and wear exactly what they wanted to!

Our wedding planner was Jeni at Vanilla Rose Weddings and she really helped us bring our perfect dream wedding to life!

Who was your wedding dress by? Why did you choose it/ makes it special to you?

My wedding dress was from Wed2B (the Hayden dress). I always thought I would choose an a-line dress, but when I tried that style on, none of the dresses suited me. But when I tried my dress for the first time, I finally felt like a bride. It made my Mum cry so I knew it was the one! I could only have one person come with me due to Covid, but my sister was on Facetime and loved it too.

Which Rachel Simpson shoes did you pick and why?

I picked the Louisa Ivory with silver trim as I thought they were beautiful, and loved the extra support around the ankle. I was a little worried about the height, as I don’t wear heels often, but they were so comfortable, and I kept them on all day and night!

Tell us about the BEST wedding moment, something that will be unforgettable to you.

Seeing all our family and friends come together what had been a difficult 16 months for everyone, due to the pandemic. Everyone was so happy, and the day was filled with laughter and smiles. That’s what I’ll always remember about our wedding day.

What was your first dance song?

Baby I’m Yours – Arctic Monkeys

What is your Top Tip for wedding planning, what brought everything together?

Hire a wedding planner if you are able to! I thought I didn’t need one as I’m quite an organised person, but I realised very quickly that having someone so experienced to be on hand, guide you through the process, and help out on the day itself was invaluable (thank you to Jeni at Vanilla Rose Weddings!).

Apart from that, I found that creating a Pinterest board helped to solidify my vision for the wedding, and get inspiration.

Communicate regularly with your venue and don’t be afraid to ask questions. I often found that our lovely venue were always able to put my mind at ease over any worries I had, especially surrounding the restrictions.

What would your advice be for future brides?

Although it’s really hard, try not to stress about the things you can’t control! And remember that as long as you have the bride, groom, family and friends it will be amazing, and everything else will fall in to place!

A massive congratulations and thank you to Laura and Matt for sharing their day with us. We wish you all the best for your future together.
