The best shoes for a 1920s inspired wedding
Posted on July 12 2021
When we talk about a twenties wedding style it sums up some gorgeous features- think sumptuous beading, drop waisted silhouettes and cascading silk to name but a few. Often we think of the classic twenties flapper style, with tiered dresses, feathers and t-bars but that can be a bit novelty or dress up for a wedding.
There are a variety of looks which you can go for if you want to style up a 1920s wedding vibe, and the best bit? Every one is as much about the accessories as it is about the dress- there's a good reason we're in love with this era!
So what are the best shoes to wear to complete the perfect twenties wedding look? Read on...
Our first look is a very typical 1920s look with a softly fitted, heavily beaded floor length gown. This one is from Eliza Jane Howell who is known for her amazing vintage inspired wedding dresses. There is something incredibly special about slipping on a beaded gown, with the reassuring weight of all that handiwork giving you a real feeling of occasion. Sleeves are classically capped, perhaps with some beaded fringing as shown here, and are beautifully flattering.
For a true twenties wedding shoe you can't beat our classic Ginger gold t-bar. This RS signature shoe has been in the collection for years and is the ultimate in 20s chic. T-bar shoes were a staple of the 1920's and now, just as then, they offer a super flattering look as they act to elongate the leg whilst at the same time giving a really supportive fit.
Gold wedding shoes are also wonderfully versatile so you'll have no problem wearing your Gingers again after the wedding.
Complete your classic twenties wedding look with a simple drop pearl earring, a vintage inspired pearl and diamante tiara and our simple yet chic Coco clutch. Oh, and add a pop of soft rose lip and cheek tint for a natural twenties make up vibe- this era wasn't always about a bold red lip!
Moving on from our classic twenties look, our next style is bursting with glamour and works particularly well for an evening or late afternoon wedding (although we'd wear it anytime it's so gorgeous!). The colour palette is rose tinted with lashings of gold and Art Deco detailing.
Here the dress is again made from an intricate fabric, but is more embroidered than beaded- or perhaps a combination of the two. A simple band cinches the dress in at the waist, giving a super elegant 1920s silhouette.
An ivory wedding shoe could be too harsh against this soft blush palette, so instead we've teamed it with our Mimosa t-bars in nude leather with warm rose gold detailing. They're just the right balance of elegant and glamour, and work beautifully when paired with our matching Mia vintage clutch.
Once again, jewellery plays an important part in this stunning twenties wedding look, with a statement drop earring in an Art Deco style. Add a shimmering body oil and subtle bronzing highlighter to give you a natural radiance, finished with a pink toned nude lip.
You'd be forgiven for thinking these first two looks summed up the 1920s in terms of bridal looks, but our third and final style adds a new twist. This time we've given the twenties style a much more relaxed and modern feel, perfect for a more laid back wedding or civil ceremony. We're in love with this ridiculously chic drop waisted gown from Belle & Bunty, perfectly styled with layered gold bracelets, a simple gold hoop and softly tousled beach style curls.
We've paired this relaxed Twenties look with our classic Gardenia t-bars- the low heel gives you a little bit of lift whilst keeping it super easy going. Alternatively you could easily go with a wedding flat for this look. Either way, complete the look with a cute Art Deco inspired clutch, such as Mia as shown and add a modern finish with a bold coral nail or lip. Who said vintage can't be sexy?
