Wedding Wednesday Emily and Adam's Colourful Summer Wedding
Posted on September 04 2019

This Wednesday we are sharing with you a bright bold wedding from the lovely Emily and Adam, who got married in beautiful Yorkshire last summer. When we saw Emily and Adam's wedding we were in awe of the incredible DIY decorations they used. Take a look at the amazing tiny cranes used to decorate the marquee to create a beautiful backdrop... such a great idea!
1. Tell us about the wedding?
I was really set on not having a ‘theme’ and wanted to avoid nude and soft tones - I wanted bright, colourful and relaxed for my summer wedding. I am a flower lover, so was so excited to pick my flowers and wanted lots of brights and lots of foliage.
I was set on having some magenta peonies and lavender but also wanted a touch of yellow - it turned out that the top table had the some yellow roses (my mother’s wedding flowers).
I was over the moon with my flowers and the top table looked dreamy! I also decided to make 1000 paper cranes to decorate the marquee - this is good luck on your wedding day in Japanese culture, but I decided to do this because the effect is stunning! Close friends and family were folding cranes for months - the lady who owned my venue made 300 and one of my closet friends made 500! So many people commented on how pretty the marquee looked and I was so happy with how they turned out.
2. Who was your wedding dress by?
My wedding dress was by Essence of Australia from Limelight occasions in Lepton. It was the fourth dress I tried on and I fell in love with it! However, I’d booked other appointments the same day and felt obliged to go to these but nothing measured up. I love the detail on the back of my dress and the cut/neckline at the front of the dress. I also absolutely love the train. As the dress is quite detailed, I chose a completely plain simple cathedral veil.

3. Which Rachel Simpson shoes did you pick and why?
I wore the blue gardenia as my ‘something blue’. I absolutely love Rachel Simpson shoes - the designs are stunning! I originally ordered the Isabelle but changed to the gardenia for a slightly lower heel - they were so comfortable all day and night and looked gorgeous.

4. Tell us about the best wedding moment?
Walking down the aisle was amazing and totally overwhelming - I certainly won’t forget seeing Adam’s face. Another unforgettable moment was probably Karen Harding singing at our ceremony during signing the registers - she sung ‘Amazing Grace’ and ‘Higher Love’ and made the service so special.
Adam’s speech was also super special and I’ll be sure never to forget some of the things he said.
5. What was your first dance song?
Our first dance was ‘Love Come Down’ by Evelyn King. This is a song we’ve both loved for a while - it’s actually from the 80s The band ended up playing it about 4 times throughout the night.
6. What is your Top Tip for wedding planning?
I think being organised is key, but also asking for help from as many people willing. There’s no way I would have been able to make 1000 paper cranes one my own. Family and close friends want to be involved and help, so let them!
7. What would your advice be for future brides?
Before the wedding a colleague said to me, don’t feel you have to spend a set amount of time with every single guest because before you know it the days over. So make sure you’ve said hello to everyone and then enjoy the day! Also, try not to fret about weather - my wedding was in July and it rained but it didn’t ruin a single second!
Thank you to Emily and Adam for sharing their day with us. We love the colour pops in the flowers and decorations. It was definitely worth all the effort of making hundreds of the cranes- the overall effect was breathtaking and definitely something that everyone will remember!
