Wedding Wednesday Adele and Calum's Autumnal Country Wedding
Posted on December 04 2019

It's been a while since we shared a Wedding Wednesday with you. We've been busy talking to lots of gorgeous RS Brides and we're so excited to start sharing lots of Autumn/ Winter weddings with you. Today we're taking a trip to Aberdeen, where bride, Adele, wore sparkly Candyfloss from our latest Autumn-Winter collection.
Calum & Adele met 13 years ago in Glasgow where they were both studying. Years later Calum got in touch when he moved back to Aberdeen. Adele and Calum went on their first date 18 months after that- the rest is history!
1. Tell us about the wedding- theme, location, colours?
We managed to turn our wedding into a bit of a weekend party! We hired a country house south of Aberdeen for the Friday and Saturday, with our ceremony and main celebrations taking place on the Saturday.
As we were heading into Autumn, we chose burgundy as our main colour with blush and gold tones.
The bridesmaids were in burgundy dresses and our lovely florist, Isla, captured the theme perfectly with her flowers. We really wanted the focus of the weekend to be everyone having fun so we tried to keep everything as relaxed as possible.
2. Who was your wedding dress by? What makes it special to you?
My wedding dress was a bespoke Sassi Holford design from a small boutique in Aberdeen, Ivory Grace. I always felt I would go for something timeless and not too fussy.
Kayleigh, the owner of Ivory Grace, was so helpful when I fell in love with the top half of one Sassi dress and the bottom half of another. She contacted Sassi Holford who were happy to put the two dresses together to create a bespoke design. I was a little bit nervous when my dress arrived as I hadn’t tried it on as a complete dress before but it was just perfect.

3. Which Rachel Simpson shoes did you pick and why?
I set out with quite a clear idea of what I was looking for in a bridal shoe - block heel, sandal, comfortable for dancing and gold with a bit of sparkle! I came across Candyfloss in gold online and they really ticked every box. I couldn’t see where to buy them online so I contacted Rachel Simpson directly and was told they were a new colour of the design being released in the UK the week of my wedding - eek! Lian at Rachel Simpson was so lovely and helpful and sent out the Candyfloss shoes in a different colour for me to try for size and fit. They were then switched the week of the wedding to the gold design. They were an absolute dream to wear on the day and lasted through all the ceilidh dancing in the evening!

4. Tell us about the best wedding moment, something that will be unforgettable to you.
Sitting at the top table next to Calum and just taking in all of our family and friends gathered together enjoying themselves. My Dad turned to me and said “these people are the glue that holds your life together” and he was just so right. It was a really special moment.
5. What was your first dance song?
It was “Breathless” by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. Probably not a common first dance song but it takes us both back to the bar I worked in when I was studying which is where we met many years ago.
6. What is your Top Tip for wedding planning, what brought everything together?
Include things in your day that reflect you as a couple, not just because of ‘tradition’. We had a humanist conduct our ceremony, a saxophone play us down the aisle, smoke bombs for the bridal party photos, a big neon sign on the dance floor and a pizza van for the late-night catering!
7. What would your advice be for future brides?
If you fall in love with a supplier - book them! If you are planning to do anything DIY try to do this quite far in advance - we had a bit of a chaotic run-up to the wedding printing menus, table names and various other things. Accept help from anyone who offers - it's easy to underestimate just how much work goes into organising a wedding and we were so incredibly grateful to everyone who helped us.
